Green Building of the Year Award recognizes a project team who, through the awarded building, has demonstrated exceptional leadership in green building through the design, construction, or operations of the building. To make this project stand out as a standard in Central PA, the project team decided to put sustainability first by pursuing the Living Building Challenge certification.
Living Building Challenge is a rigorous benchmark of sustainability that was both important to the owners and occupants as well as the Envinity team.
Rooted in the belief that the built environment can create an opportunity for humans to have a positive impact on the natural systems they interact with, the challenge is broken down in Petals:
Place – Restoring a healthy interrelationship with nature
Water – Creating developments that operate within the water balance of a given place and climate.
Energy – Relying only on current solar income.
Health and Happiness – Creating Environment that optimize physical and psychological health and well being.
Materials – Endorsing products that are safe for all species through time.
Equity – Supporting a just and equitable world
Beauty – Celebrating design that uplifts the human spirit.
