Energy Improvements Enable Homeowner to Realize a 44% Reduction in Home Energy Costs

(Bellefonte, PA, July 2012)

Our home performance crew helped a Bellefonte homeowner save $1,420 (44%) annually on home energy costs. The project was financed through AFC First and their Keystone HELP Loan.  The energy savings are paying for the improvements—hgh efficiency space and water heating equipment, attic insulation, air sealing, and basement insulation. The monthly energy savings are predicted to be slightly greater than the monthly payment on the loan.  Thus, the homeowner was able to significantly upgrade his home without affecting his tight monthly budget.

The homeowner has told us on several occasions that he can literally feel the difference in his home.  He has gone the majority of the summer without using air conditioning, and he credits much of that to the fact that his house is now better air sealed and insulated.

We initially met the homeowner during the summer of 2009.  We conducted an energy audit of his home, and stayed in touch over the years.  In the spring of 2012, he asked us to revisit the results from his energy audit in an attempt to improve his home.  After a nearly 3 year hiatus, we were able to make some much needed improvements.
